LABELED ATHLETIC ATHLETE
Dakota Washington, is a 5"5 DS/Libero; class of 2028 . Currently playing for A5 Volleyball Club and Norcross High School on their Varsity Volleyball Team. She also has a 4.0 GPA.
How did you start playing?
My parents signed me up at the YMCA for a recreational league but it didn’t stick with me until I made my middle school feeder team in 6th grade and made a club team at A5 Volleyball Club.
How old were you when you started?
I was 8 years old when my parents got me into volleyball because at the time I wanted to explore more sports and get involved with more activities because at that time I only did Allstar Cheer.
Did you always play the same position?
No actually, my first & second year I was an Outside & Right Side. This year and last year I started to be a DS/Libero.
Has it always been a dream of yours to play college volleyball?
Yes, absolutely. Playing Collegiately has always been a dream and a goal for me since I fell in love with the sport. I love watching the games and watching my favorite players compete at some of the highest levels. It has definitely motivated me to want to work towards that level of playing.
What is your favorite aspect of playing volleyball?
I love the game overall but if I had to choose my favorite thing it would be celebrating big points with my team and serve receive. Learning to love serve receive is by far my favorite thing these past few months. The feeling of having a great pass and setting up my team for success is my favorite thing to do. I love encouraging and motivating my teammates to reach their highest potential not only on the court, but off the court.

What kind of training do you do on your own?
I like to train on Serve Receive & Defense but specifically on ball control, my mindset, and recovery. I try to stay focused but have fun at the same time. As well as not letting mistakes affect my game. After practices I like to ice my knees, put heat on my back, roll out my muscles, and to sleep as much as possible to make sure my body is rested and energized for my next day of practice so I can be the best player that I can be for my team and coach.
Any advice for younger players?
Some advice I have for younger players is to stay confident in your training and your abilities. Mistakes are normal and are okay, what matters is how you bounce back and move on to the next play.
